| Student assessment is to assess students' learning development and improvement. It should assess students' all-round development on attitude and affection, learning strategies as well as knowledge and skills. It is the core of educational assessment, and it also attracts all the educationists' attention.The assessment reforming in education has become one of the most important parts in the process of new curriculum since the basic education reforming started in 2001, and the developmental assessment system is put forward.However, affected by the traditional educational assessment system in China, thereexist many problems in student assessment system, such as an overemphasis on testing knowledge, selecting talents, written examination, teachers' role in assessment and students' test performance, instead of students' class performance. This kind of student assessment system neglects students' learning process, affection, attitude, learning strategies and efforts, thus it has a negative effect on English teaching and students' development. Therefore, it is necessary for us to set up a reasonable and scientific student assessment system in English teaching. This thesis focuses on how to carry out developmental student assessment system so as to promote students' development.First of all, on the basis of questionnaires, the thesis points out the problems in students' assessment system nowadays, and analyzes the necessity to carry out developmental student assessment system in English teaching. After that, the theoretical foundations and their assessment ideas are introduced, and definition, characteristics and functions of developmental student assessment system are also discussed. Next to that comes the most important part of this thesis: the five practical assessment methods: observing class performance;language encouragement;assignment comments;examination and portfolio assessment.In order to know the effect of the assessment methods, the educational experiment is designed and performed in two classes for half a year. In the experimental class, the developmental student assessment methods are used, while in the controlled class, traditional student assessment methods are used. The results of the experiment prove that the developmental student assessment system is better than the traditional one, which helps to cultivate students' positive attitude and affection;effective learning strategies as well as the learning progress in English knowledge and skills. In a word, it can promote students development in an all-round way. |
