Study On Cultivation Of National Spirit Of College Students

Entering the 21st century, China faces the severe competition and challenge of the world economy, politics, science and culture, and the reform of domestic economic system and political structure. The promotion and cultivation of national spirit should be, from either the historical or the realistic macroscopic view, the most fundamental and significant historical mission for the higher education in China. The Party and the country government have always been emphasizing the cultivation of national spirit on college students, however, with the transition of times and the development of the society, people's understanding about the meaning of national spirit now needs deepening, and the knowledge of the influence and function of national spirit in the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way is to be elevated as well. Especially for the college students undertaking the hopes and future of our nation, whether they obtain the exalted national spirit, whether they can follow the steps of the era, and participate in the destiny of the nation and the struggles of the people, are with strategic significance in the realization of the great renaissance of the Chinese nation. This author therefore intend, under the guidance of dialectical materialism and historical materialism and with reference of education theory and approaches on ideologies and politics, to research on the project of cultivation of national spirit on college students.This article is divided into 5 parts. The first part illustrates the significance of cultivating contemporary college students with national spirit. The cultivation of national spirit on contemporary college students is regarded as a demand of building a well-off society in an all-round way, an important mission of college moral education, and an essential condition to promote the overall development of college students. The second part then analyzes the current status of the education of national spirit on college students. On the basis of sufficient approval on the current achievements, it surveys major problems existing in the education of national spirit on college students, such as with less systematicness, single formality and lacking of joint strength from the society. Besides, it also discusses the impact of the economic globalization and the cultural pluralism, therestriction of the low level of material production, the disturbance of undesirable ethos and the influence from the Internet culture. The third part presents the social conditions of the cultivation of national spirit on college students, with an opinion that a comprehensive educational system covering various aspects of the family, the school and the society should be constructed, in order to form a joint force to achieve desired effects. The forth part reveals the connotation of the cultivation of national spirit on college students, and proposes a content system to be built, with patriotism as its focus, the outstanding traditional culture of the Chinese nation as its emphasis, and the sense of social responsibility as its support. The fifth part discusses the approaches and methods of cultivating college students with national spirits. With the establishment of new educational ideas, it explores new ways more popular and acceptable in college students, seeks for new media such as classroom and extracurricular activities, environment and the Internet, for the purpose of improving the effectiveness of the cultivation of national spirit on college students.
