Abstract/Summary:
Since the 20~th century, world culture has taken a significant and important turn. Culture of traditional meaning, which is characteristic of nationality, region and historical continuity, gives place to medium culture of modern conception, which is open, trans-national, non-regional and non-historical. In actual fact, showbiz culture is totally different from culture of traditional meaning. Culture of traditional meaning is formed within a closed region, and symbolizes a strong national ethos. It is inherited and developed from generation to generation, and reflects the typical thinking, feeling and living style of a specific nation. Meanwhile, showbiz culture proves to be an open system without regional limitation. It is a combination of cultures of all nations, and has not the feature of historical continuity. Showbiz culture exists in television with all sorts of programs and information, which makes people capable of selecting and exchanging freely. Considering the fact that movie and television has become a very important part of social culture, this thesis gives an explanation of the social functions of showbiz culture, makes an analysis of the influences of showbiz culture on university students' minds by means of questionnaire on the students in the four districts of Wuhan University, and points out that the society should develop a positive cultural atmosphere, and create a good environment of political education. This environment should be helpful for university students to cultivate a correct outlook on world, life and value. While the entertainment functions of the television are emphasized, the functions of education and directing should also be taken seriously, making university students have responsibilities not only for society but also for themselves, and have a reasonable judgment of their duties and objectives. The thesis also gives some suggestions on how to take the advantages of showbiz culture to improve political education in the universities, making political education characteristic of pertinence, effectiveness and modernity.
