Social intercourse has required that the students must make further progress in their speaking ability ever since the world entered the twenty-first century. It must be improved to keep pace with the progress of the society and the development of the economic. The popularization of the education and the speed of the elementary education reform also require it to be improved. But I think there is a long distance between the students' speaking ability and the demand of the education and the society. Two reasons made the long distance. On the one hand, the present Chinese education has based on the our acient education, it attached importance to articles but made light of speaking, it attached importance to theory but made light of practice, it attached importance to knowledge but made light of ability. On the other hand, it also has something to do with the present education system, social atmosphere and the students' psychological factor and their thought character. In order to solve the present problem, all the teachers of Chinese have to do something to improve the students' speaking ability in many ways so that they can prove equal to the historical mission that the present society gives them.
