As the curricula reformation advances, college physical education reformation progresses under the guidance of the"well-being first"notion; and college P.E. pattern, contents, approach and structure have all been enriched step by step and leisure physical training has become popular among students. But confined to the traditional class-based teaching approach, sports like tennis is no easy to teach under the mechanical and stereotyped P.E. curricula. Class-based teaching style has greatly constrained college P.E. reformation, subjects-centered notion can hardly be realized, and the reformation is in a most trying moment. Hence, in accordance with the principia of being practical and realistic and to follow the trend of time and satisfy students'demand, college physical education must break through the so-called traditional class-teaching approach, which was established by Comenius under the industrialization background in the 17th century, and be released from the bondage of the so-called four fixations. In order to help the college physical education develop exuberantly and continuously, club is a good way to remedy the disadvantages of the traditional class-teaching approach.Subjects in the thesis are deans and directors of P.E. teaching and research department and their students in 16 universities and colleges directly under the Education Department in 8 cities of north China, municipality included. Methods adopted in the thesis are literature and data, experts'opinions, Mathematical Statistics and polls and questionnaire. By random sampling, 16 expert-questionnaires were accepted and 160 students were surveyed by polls for them. The validity and reliability of the results correspond with the requirement of statistics and hence can be referred to.Conclusions are:1. College tennis clubs develop rapidly and the enrollment increases strikingly and students have some understanding about tennis, but the development is not balanced.2. College tennis clubs enrich physical training activities on campus, remedy the insufficiency of the formal class teaching, extend the significance of the P.E. courses, expand college's physical training function, meet the students'psychological need, stimulate their enthusiasm in exercises.3. So far as the administration is concerned, a further study is necessary about things such as fee for club members, coaches'quality, practice time arrangement and students'learning traits.
