According to the 2000 population census of China, the age structure of Chinese population has significant differences between urban and rural areas. For the bracket of 65 above, urban areas has a percentage of 6.30%, comparing to 7.33% in rural area. The former is a percentage point higher than that of the la(?)ter. The main reason for this difference is the relative increase of the percentage of the old in rural areas because of a large number of the young rural labours' migration to urban areas. At the same time, there are more and more 'empty nestle' families in rural areas, causing the problem of supporting the old in these families.According to this situation, the author wants to investigate the 'empty nestle' families support to the old in the urbanization of several villages in Hunan through the angle of urbanization with the method of non-probability sampling. The author has not only found the positive function of peasants' migration to urban areas on the economic support to 'empty nestle' families in rural areas, but also has found the negative function of it on the life-care and mental consolation to the old in these families. Peasants' migration to urban areas has to a certain extent interacted with the support to the old in the empty nestle families. This paper is exploring a new route applicable to the support to the old of the 'empty nestle' families in rural areas. It construcs a multi-subject and multi-route support system to the old depending mainly on mental consolation. The paper is going to provide evidence for government decision making.
