Task-based language teaching ( TBLT ) has become a heated topic in second language acquisition and EFL teaching. It emphasizes the importance of organizing a course around communicative tasks that learners need to do outside the classroom, and promotes learners to do tasks required in communicative language use. The essence of task-based learning is a process of "learning by doing", in which learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencing and exploring language. In the past 20 years, many experts in applied linguistics have not only done research into TBLT in theory but also explored it in practice. The thesis attempts to study the implementation of TBLT in reading classes and discusses the new model of task-based reading class in secondary specialized schools so as to confirm its feasibility in teaching reading and benefit from the valuable suggestions and experience of TBLT. Analysis of domestic and overseas reference documents, analysis of what is drawn from the experiment and survey of the questionnaires are three methods adopted in the study.Based on the theories of TBLT and reading, this thesis discusses the different types of tasks that are suitable to reading class in secondary specialized schools and then designs the teaching procedures of reading according to the framework of Jane Willis. They are pre-reading stage, while-reading stage and post-reading stage. One sample of task-based reading model is given for further illustration. By means of comparison of the results and analysis of the questionnaires between the experimental class and controlled class the writer tries to obtain the advantages and disadvantages of the practical application of TBLT. The research result shows TBLT is welcomed in the teaching practice. It is beneficial to arouse the reading interests of the students, change the attitude towards the English study and improve the reading skills and the whole English level. The writer believes that it has a positive meaning to apply TBLT theory into teaching reading practice. The writer hopes other teachers who are practicing this kind of teaching patterncan use this thesis for reference, meanwhile it will become a scientific, high effective class teaching pattern in order to improve the teaching quality of English teaching class in secondary specialized schools.
