Nowadays, we have entered a knowledge-based economy age. And the requirement of the economy construction and social development to a talented person has been changed from the knowledge type to the ability type. This puts forward higher request to us foundational educators. For a long time, Our national teaching has been following a traditional mode, which centers on teachers instead of the subjection of students and emphasizes the backlog of knowledge instead of the development of ability. Obviously, this kind of education system has not met the demand for talented people in the contemporary society. Since the 1980s, the teaching innovation has been called out repeatedly. Respecting and cultivating students' subjection, cooperation and creativity have become an important target of the education reform. But as an effective method in developing the ability of students, exploratory teaching indicates the direction for teachers to carry out quality education.Owing to the earnest study of the theories of the exploratory teaching, the author adopts exploratory teaching method in the biology class to establish the scenes, guides the students to study independently and explore actively and provides students with the opportunity of full freedom of expression, query, exploration, and discussion, and adopts a diversified and characterized evaluation mechanism to help the students know the ego and build up the self-confidence. The aim of it is improving the students' interest in the study, changing study methods, fostering the students' cooperation ability and creative abilities, and improving the teaching quality.The writer has carried out the practice and research of exploratory teaching in the Senior Grade Two at No.6 Middle School of Lanzhou for about one year since September, 2004. She adopted the exploratory teaching in the experimental class and the traditional teaching in the contrasted class. There are mainly 6 types in the exploratory teaching carried out at experimental class : ① Exploration through investigation; ②Exploration through collection of information and materials; ③ Experimental exploration; ④Experiential exploration; ⑤Exploration of emphasis and difficulty in class teaching; ⑥Exploration of exercises. According to contrasted experiment, investigative questionnaire, observations and interviews, and statisticsand analysis, we have drawn the conclusions that: ?Exploratory teaching can effectively improve the students' cognition to the biology study and interest and activity in the study, and change the students' learning method; ?Exploratory teaching can remind the students of cooperation consciousness and enhance their ability effectively; (3) Exploratory teaching can raise the students' creation consciousness and ability effectively; ?Exploratory teaching can improve students' study performance rapidly.For one year, through the practice of exploratory teaching on senior biological teaching at No.6 Middle School I have achieved the primary performance, which strengthens my confidence. In the future, the writer will continue to cooperate with the other teachers in the school to improve the exploratory teaching method, using this method not only in the biological course but also in other courses broadly, in order to cultivate more and more new talented persons for economy development of our country.
