Reading is an indispensable social practice in man's social lives, and the value of reading competence visualizes day by day. Related researches have revealed that age 3 to 8 was a key period for the development of children's basic reading competence, and parent-child reading is a key means for early reading education which is significant to the cultivation of preschoolers' reading competence. This study aims at surveying the status quo of parent-child reading in preschoolers' families in the main urban districts of Chongqing, finding out problems and providing solutions accordingly, and providing references to preschoolers' family education in Chongqing. Furthermore, it aims at providing references and experiences to both theoretical researches and practices about parent-child reading throughout China.This research applies methods such as documentation, questionnaire, interview and observation to study parent-child reading in preschoolers' families in the main urban districts of Chongqing. This research obtains the following results.Admirable points of parent-child reading in preschoolers' families in the main urban districts of Chongqing are that most parents understand exactly the concept of parent-child reading and admit its value for preschoolers' development Additionally, they create some conditions and spare some time, spend some energy and show their passion to parent-child reading, which adequately meet preschoolers' reading needs.Problems exist in parent-child reading in preschoolers' families in the main urban districts of Chongqing are as follows. Firstly, for some serious misunderstandings, parents do not completely and correctly realize the value of parent-child reading, or totally neglect it. Therefore, they hardly conduct parent-child reading with their children, or just regard it as word-recognition teaching, or early intellectual development, or behavior modeling and moral preaching.
