| After publication of the report,A Nation at Risk:The Imperative for Educational Reform,by the National Commission on Excellence in Education in April,1983,a new educational reform wave around the construction of learning system and improving on education quality all—sided surged in the United States.In 1986,as the Carnegie Forum on Education and the Economy Publishing their report,A Nation Prepared: Teachers for the 21st Century and the Holmes group publishing their report, Tomorrow's Teachers,the movement of modern teacher professionalization took place. The demand of American education reform and the historical background of teacher education reform promotes the teacher professionalizing movement that centralize the teacher professional development in 1980s'medium—term of the U.S.A. In this movement,the making policy department of America selected the PDS that is the connecting structure between the university teacher education reform and the education reform of primary and middle school as the path of teacher professional development. On this ground,Professional Development School(PDS),a partnership model between colleges or universities and elementary,middle and high schools,was born. The goals of PDS are to play an exemplary role for pre-service teacher, encouraging in-service teacher professional development and promoting school-university collaborate research. through the establishment PDS, both the collaboration between schools and university and the collaboration of all parts in educational department are reinforced. As a redesigned and readjusted partnership, PDS has multi—functions including cultivating teacher candidates and new teacher, training inservice teacher, and schools reform and brought forward a series of new thoughts for teacher education reform.PDS has received extensive attention in the educational realm and become a national trend in teacher education. This thesis has analyzed and introduced the origin,development and effect of PDS,discussed its theories,and provided some suggestion in teacher education reform for our nation. The PDS has given a new nature and function to the elementary and middle school in promoting teacher professional development and pushed forward attempt of actively exploring the path of realizing teacher professional development and then pushed forward the American education reform. Our government should learn the experience of American PDS and make the relative policy for supporting,encouraging , normalizing and directing the corresponding teacher professional development way. Firstly, this thesis expounds the rise of PDSs. PDS didn't come into being without foundation. The rise of PDSs can be traced back to Dewdey's Laboratory Schools, a partnership between schools and colleges that has a history of more than one hundred years. Moreover, the establishment of PDSs is influenced by the international teacher educational reform and advanced by American civil education reform. Secondly, the thesis discusses the theories and practises operation of PDSs. Thirdly, this thesis explores the benefits that the PDSs have made and the problems that PDSs are facing. The benefits PDSs have made are as following: pre-service teachers'education has been improved, in-service teachers'professional development has been advanced, collaborative inquiry has been facilitated and students'learn has been improved. However, PDSs are also facing some problems, such as influences of traditional attitudes and prior experiences, resource problems, structure problems and relationship problems. Lastly, this thesis analyses the enlightenment that PDSs can give to the reform of schools and teacher education in our country. This thesis used educational basic theories knowledge relatively systematic analysis to the theory and practice of U.S.A. PDS from the teacher professional development angle, fully utilizing the theory idea method of pedagogy, carries on research after drawing lessons from sociology, history and management. This thesis, described the origin and development of PDS in an all-round way, and at the the same time, describes the operation mode of PDS, and carry on evaluation and analysis to its characteristic and effect, in order to offer some useful experiences and offer some suggestions for our country. |
