Investigation On The Course Of Biology And Its Textbooks Used In Secondary Health Schools

Modern biology has already gradually revealed the laws of life movement on the basis of molecule's level since 20th century. The bioscience is one of the natural sciences, which develop fastest and its development plays a great role in medical development. Biology is an important basic course in medical education, and it's major for the development of medical students to master biological fundamental theories, elementary knowledge and basic skills. But in Secondary Health School, people pay no attention to the course of biology and the teaching material is also simplest and outdated. The teaching hours have being cut between 1984 and 2000; even since 2000 this course has been gradually cancelled instead of a course named Introduction to Medical Genetics.The author investigated 356 students who were from Hubei Xianning Health School, Hubei Jingmen Health School, Hubei Huangshi Health School, The Attached Health School of Wuhan University, Henan Ping-ding-shan Health School and Henan Nanyang Health School, and 112 teachers who were from 32 Health Schools in Hubei province and interviewed part of the biological teachers personally. The results of investigation and analysis show that almost all people pay no attention to the course of biology in Secondary Health School, and it hasn't abundant supply of experimental instrument and equipment. It is improper for medical majors to just learn Introduction to Medical Genetics rather than Biology in secondary specialized schools; what's more, the teaching material of Biology in Secondary Health School is very outdated and simplistic in every aspect from content to form so as not to develop the students' exploring abilities and creative abilities. Therefore, the full reformation of teaching material is of great urgency.From analysis of investigation and interview, some suggestions are put forward. Secondary Health School need pay more attention to the development of biology and offer this course in every specialty, in the first semester of the first academic year four times a week.
