Construction And Application Of Task-based English Teaching Model In Middle Schools

According to the current trends of foreign language teaching in the world and our realities of English teaching in middle school and considering the new English curriculum syllabus issued by the department of education of P.R.C., we have proposed a research project called construction and application of task-based English teaching model in middle schools.In the period of one-term teaching experiment, we have constructed task-based English teaching model in middle school based on the psycholinguistic perspective and socio-cultural theory and socio-constructivism. Task-based English teaching model refers to a model in which on the purpose of improving students' comprehensive language skills especially communicative abilities, the teachers design all kinds of tasks according to the specific communicative aims and language items, and let the students learn the knowledge of English and practise the language skills while doing the tasks. Based on the analysis of experiment data, we have drawn the following conclusions after teaching experiment. 1. Subjects have make great progresses in listening and writing; 2. Meanwhile the subjects have improved interests in learning English and have planned their English studies better than before; 3. On the other hand, there is no improvement on students' reading skill and there is no obvious change in the aspects of studying independence and studying perseverance.It is a try-out effort to introduce task-based language teaching model into junior English classes. Undoubtedly , there are some points to be improved and problems to be solved, such as the difference between results of long-term experiment and short-term experiment, the improvement of questionnaire about English learning attitudes, the problem about design and arrangement of tasks and so on.
