In the late 20th century, with the development of science and technology, the society took on highly-industried, highly-informationed, highly-internationaled. By the time, human society has got the most prosperous because of rapid advancement of science and technology. However, in the meantime, many thorny problems arose. How to make the human society develop continuously? How to face and solve the global economic, political and environmental problems? All of these make human society and education face challenges!You know, traditional education can' t accord with the needs of the society, and face severe situation, especially history education. So, since 194o' s, every country in the world had begun to explore new way out for history education; By the 1970' s, some developed countries began to do some useful attempts. These are typical cases: under the guidance of ideas of globalization and pluralism, America renewed to recognize the functions of history curriculum; England brought out the idea of "new history " , making a great breakthrough in the field of developing students' historical consciousness and abilities; and in the 1980' s, Japan reexamined the curriculum framework of social studies, went inquest of the balance relationship between history education and social development, international place and competing talents. And with the development of the reform and open policy, our country' s reform of history education deepened gradually. In the late 1980 's , on the base of probing rich teaching methods, our country made fostering abilities as the core of history education; and after the middle 1990' s, furthered to deepen the ability of history course, and the same time, value the function of educating persons of history education.In this thesis, the author manages to analyse emphatically the characteristic of history education in the social studies curriculum, and its special values in the aspects of improving traditional history education by carding main outcomes of research and trends of developments of abroad and domestic history education. On the all, it includes three main ideas: (1) History education is the rudiments' course of the social science; (2) Placing history education under the framework of social studies curriculum can help expose and emphasize the curriculum' s character- make the education of citizen as its aim;(3) Researching history education from the vision of social studies curriculum can widen history education' s visions and ways, and accelerate curriculum modernization.
