The Course of Study corresponds to the curriculum or teaching guidebook in our country.Based on the Course of Study promulgated by the (Art Scientific Department) in 1977,1989,1998 and 2008, this paper elaborates on the background,process,and outcome of the teaching revolution in the past fourty years. The elementary education reform is implemented every ten years, of which the history class reform is the most phenomenal.The history education is closely related to national will. On the one hand, since recent epoch the history education has always been use as the militarism propaganda. After the second world war, it serves as one of the means to promote democracy education. On the other hand, as the central content of the social scientific education, history education plays a indispensable role and it has unparalleled educational value in both the class arrangement amd the class content. It not only embodies the educational intention of the Japanese government but also one of the fundamental approaches to boost democracy education.While elaborating on the background of the preceding lesson reforms and analyzing the history part of the Course of Study, this paper fully exhibits the chief features of the history education in Japan nowadays:One is the value of the history lesson within the framework of social education. The other is the significance of fostering the students'citizen qualification.
