Constructivism is a further development in learning theory from cognitivism which follows behaviorism. It is a peculiar learning theory system which is the result of the long-term exploration in teaching theory and practice.Traditional Chinese teaching cannot produced the qualified personnel meeded by the modern society. Based on constractivism, this thesis intends to discuss Chinese teaching during the period of compulsory education. In constructivism, there exist some peculiar ideas about knowledge, teacher and student, and learning environment. Chinese as a tool and its humanistic quality, along with the characteristics of primary school students' physical and psychological development, make constructivism show certain advantages in Chinese teaching.When constructivism is employed to guide Chinese teaching, it is necessary to reform the relationship of teacher and students, emphasizing students as subjects and teacher just as a helper. It is also necessary to change the evaluating method, evaluating contents and the evaluating subjects, As for the creation of the learning situations and cooperative learning, the thesis' illustrations are based on two aspects: Chinese teaching through information technology and conventional classroom teaching. In the environment of information technololgy, multimedia and network technology are put into full use and creates an authentic situation with sound and color in which communications can take place; in conventional classroom, radioactive networklike classroom can be constructed through role-playing, object-displaying, language description, experiencing life in created situation, creating harmonious classroom atmosphere, etc.
