It has been the actual situation for long that English teaching in China's middle school classrooms only overstresses giving of the language knowledge and overlooks the cultivation of the students' overall abilities of using the language in living and so as only to produce mute English learners with lower abilities accompanied by high scores. Strongly advocated in the "New Standards for Middle School English Curriculums" is the Task-Oriented Teaching Model for English Language (afterwards as TOTMEL) based on dozens years' practice of teaching foreign languages in foreign countries and this model implements the cultivation of the overall abilities of using English in the actual process of English teaching and attaches importance to such learning methods as experiencing, practicing, participating, exchanging and cooperating with aims to obtaining information, giving, receiving and accomplishing tasks and achieving purposes of tasks in English.This thesis has clarified the definition, source and background of TOTMEL and discussed with guidance of this theory the principles and approaches of setting up Practical Task-Oriented Teaching Model for English Language in Middle School Classrooms with care of the real situation of English Teaching in China. In the thesis I have expatiated in detail the basic ideas, purposes, specified contents and procedures of implementing this mocfel in English classes and have summarized the case researches conducted in my classes and concluded that this model is feasible and effective in middle school English classrooms.
