With the economic globalization and the rapid development of science and technology,English teaching as a main channel through which English learners have access to the mastery of English is paid much attention to than ever before.However,affected by the test-orientated education,the main current problem in English teaching in secondary schools in China is that most teachers have laid more emphasis on the teaching of knowledge about language than the training of students'comprehensive abilities of using a foreign language. They just submerge in analyzing sentence structures and ignore the fostering of students'linguistic competence.Task-based teaching method,based on lots of researches done by foreign scholars, is one of the most effective language teaching methods in the 1980s.The method,a variety of communicative language approach, aims to convey communicative language teaching theory into classroom instruction.Since new secondary school curriculum has been practiced in China,many schools are carrying out Task-based teaching reform.This research discusses Task-based listening in secondary schools.By studying the definition,characteristics and theoretical bases of Task-based teaching,the paper provides the practical ways of Task-based listening teaching in the secondary school.Task-based teaching emphasizes'learning by doing',leaves learners to experience the target language and construct the language system by themselves.What's more,the demand for the tasks to be similar to those in daily life ensures that the tasks possess the features of real communication.All this is supposed to be helpful in training learners'communicative competence.The paper is made up of six chapters.The first chapter presents the purpose of this research and the framework of the paper.The second chapter gives the theoretical basis for the whole research by reviewing the basic principles and development of Task-based teaching theory and presenting the relevant research results both at home and abroad.The third chapter depicts the outline of the research,including how classroom teaching tasks and homework tasks are designed .The fourth chapter is about the experimental procedure and the assessment of students'performance.Some samples of teaching plans are also included in this part.The third and the fourth chapter are the main parts of the paper.The fifth chapter analyses and discusses the results of the experiment.The sixth chapter looks forward to the future development of Task-based listening teaching in China.
