Great and profound changes are taking place in today's society, science technology and the politic, economic, cultural and ideological changes aroused by it become the motivation and representation of social changes. This changes require us cultivate a new generation with creative desire and practical intelligence. At present, marketing economy is flourishing and thriving, it is not only a process of constructing economic system but also a process in which personality shifts from dependence to independence. Its claims are to throw off the shroud of feudal hierarchy ideology and dependent personality, set free from planned economy system depressing people's initiative and creativity, bring people's initiative and character into full play and mould independent personality of its own. Dependent personality roots from the social system in which people's body attached to others, and thousands of years of feudalism system generated extremely thick traditional cultural grounds. Undoubtedly it sets up the greatest barricade for people to form most needed independent personality. What's more, realistic class teaching directly represses students' personality. Based on the field of class teaching, this article tries to research systematically about cultivating independent personality and explore operational methods of that.According to Maslow desire levels theory, personality is the summation of psychological characters formed in the process of satisfying one's own desire under a certain social condition. Independent personality, compared to dependent personality, typically exhibits signs of enjoying being different from others, having fancy ideas, exploring unknown world actively, surveying matters with curious perspective, daring to put forward distinct opinions against group pressure. The quality of independence is based upon knowing oneself correctly and behaving ofone's own accord, at the same time, it should not be an extreme character beyondthe control of ideology and ethics. With regard to its exhibition, independent personality possesses three characteristics: self-confidence, self-control and self-determination.Headed by entrance examinations of higher schools, test-oriented education still has room for farther existence, which deprives students of their independent personality: They hold a firm belief on authorities including not only their teachers but also their textbooks or classmates who are better than them; They are always the followers and never act as the leaders of something new. These naturally different children are all standardized after the process of education; They dare not or can not express themselves freely or make themselves heard, and are afraid of saying something wrong; They seldom question their teachers and textbooks, lacking the consciousness of quest. This can be attributed to many causes including their natural character and their surroundings, of which class teaching is one of the main causes that influence the formation of independent personality. Specifically, there are some reasons as follows: Students' will is ignored and replaced by teachers'. Teachers act as designers who have right to determine the students what to do about their study. Students think and behave in their teachers' way but not their own way; The lack of democratic and free teaching atmosphere; Too strict disciplines in class, some of which are so strict that it seems to threat an enemy; Conservative materials and ways of teaching. Teaching materials are limited to the textbooks . And the stereotyped teaching mode does not consider students as independent individuals.Class teaching is the most important factor that shapes a person's character. Instead of limiting and breaking into students' study and living, te...
