Along with the development of the western women's campaign, the theories of feminism appear to be abundant and mature, are no longer confined to the issues of sex and lives of women, and begin to reexamine the whole western culture. This thesis starts with the simple analysis of the meaning of feminism, then explores the theoretical sources of feminism, summarizes the main theories as well as their limitations of traditional feminism, and finally presents the internal conflict of feminism profoundly. It points out that the internal conflict of feminism and the limitations of traditional feminism direct feminism towards a new way, but the coalition of feminism and postmodernism jusf offers the development of feminism new possibilities and opportunities, and propels feminism into a new stage of postmodern transformation. This thesis deeply explores the similarities, differences and internal conflict between feminism and postmodernism, and maintains that the similarities as well as the tendencies of feminism and postmodernism make feminism absorbing and connecting thoughts of postmodernism, and adopting a new perspective of equality between men and women. Thus postmodern feminism comes into being. Then this thesis describes the main theories of postmodern feminism in detail, reveals that postmodernism offers ideological weapons and methodology of fighting against the ruling of patriarchy and provides the precious resources of thoughts for postmodern feminism's criticization of traditional feminism, and then illustrates the role of postmodern feminism in criticizing and surpassing the limitations of traditional feminism. By this token, postmodern feminism is a contemporary development of traditional feminism. That is to say, feminism developing into 1960s, affected by postmodernism, results in the postmodern transformation as a whole, takes aim at criticizing and surpassing the limitations that traditional feminism itself cannot overcome, and pushesthe further development of feminism. On the other hand, this thesis suggests that postmodern feminism meets with new challenges. If the postmodern transformation of feminism makes feminism exceed the privilege of the white women, the multi-directional choices far from the nucleus cause feminism shattered. Therefore, if feminism expects to fulfill its own political objectives and insists on the consistent standpoints of feminism, it must be prepared to meet the double challenges of modernism and postmodernism.
