From a contemporary standpoint, this thesis is an exploration of theeducational management thought in Plato's The Republic and its revelation forthe present study of educational management. In Plato's day, there were nospecialized educational institutions except Akademid established by Plato himself.Education was in rudimental station and its mode was typical master-apprenticesystem. Therefore, Plato's educational management thought was unsystematicand even so was his philosophical system. Accordingly, my research is a fusionof Plato's thought and contemporary characteristics. Based on present researchachievements, the author of the thesis believes that Plato's The Republic reflectssociety-oriented educational view, an educational management system ofprimitive communism and an educational mechanism dominated by statemonitoring. And the society-oriented educational view includes the view ofeducational management essence, the view of educational management practiceand the view of educational management quality. As far as the view ofeducational management essence is concerned, Plato holds an opinion thateducational resources should be controlled strictly by the state in the process ofeducation to cultivate qualified personnel beneficial to the state. With regard tothe view of educational management practice, this thesis discusses the role of thestate and the laws playing in educational management from the perspective ofcourse design. As regards the view of educational management quality, from theangle of personnel cultivating quality the author of the thesis explores Plato'sgeneral view of personnel cultivating quality and his specific view of personnelcultivating quality. Regarding the educational management system of primitive communism, this thesis focuses on its matriculating system based on gender equality, its strict examine-selecting system classified educational system which has the nature of professional education. In the part of the educational mechanism dominated by state monitoring, the thesis expounds that the city-state nature determines the mechanism of the origin of educational management essence, philosophers being leading mechanism of educational management body, the functioning mechanism in which the subject and the object work respectively and the monitoring mechanism of the state's absolute control. At last, the thesis analyzes revelations of the philosophical thought in Plato's The Republic for present study of educational management, from the aspects of theory and pratice.
