The Properties of Matter is one of the four sets of science textbooks for junior middle school of U.S.A. in project STC/MS. The four sets of science textbooks, which are developed by the National Scientific Resource Center (NSRC) of U.S.A., implement National Education of Science Standards o f U .S.A. S cientific i nquiry i s the core of this book, which encourages students' curiosity, connects to the students' daily life, and emphasizes on the relationship among science, technology and society. The object of the research is the chemical part in Properties of Matter. The author has analyzed the history and the present of domestic and abroad science education, and studied some representative curriculum theory, scientific inquiry theory, Thaler's Objective Theory and CIPP Evaluative Theory, hi order to systemically study the chemical part in Properties of Matter, the author presents a model at first. The model describes and analyzes the chemical part of the book from five aspects, which are aim, content, strategy, teachers and students. Based on the model, the author researches not only on book itself but also on the evaluation of teachers and the feedback of students, as well as studies the textbooks by the method of questionnaire and experiment as demonstration. Then the author embodies this model to a flow chart and draws the following conclusions:(1) The objective of the book is to improve all students' scientific literature;(2) The content of the book agrees with students' cognitive level and is easy for student to understand;(3)The book embodies the teaching strategy of scientific inquiry;(4)The book combines scientificity with acceptability;(5)The book helps teachers to teach.Through the research on the chemical part in Properties of Matter for junior middle school of U.S.A, the author has found some advantages in this book, which might be helpful in our curriculum reform at the present time and be able to speed up science education of our country. At the same time, the author expects that the model and flow chart in the thesis can be helpful to others in researches on textbooks.
