The research is an outcome of a trial on comprehensive practical activities in minorities regions, in the background of China's implementing quality education, which greatly emphasizes students' innovative mentality and practical abilities. The thesis is a preliminary study on serial research to make a sustainable development in education and the feasibility to have comprehensive practical activities in the poverty-stricken minorities regions. The objective to have comprehensive practical activities in the regions is based on the purposes to promote the reform of their old-fashioned teaching style and unitary learning methods and especially to improve the quality and efficiency of teaching and learning.Action research is the effective means for teachers to acquire ideas and practical competence for their profession. The research mainly applies action research approaches. Through personal observation and participation of the comprehensive practical activities collaborated with the partner teachers in the regions, the thesis tries to find out the existing problems in educational practice and the solutions and strategies to improve teachers' practical abilities for the profession as well as to improve students' concept and methods for learning. The main conclusions are as follows:I. Both in the developed areas and in poverty-stricken minorities regions, comprehensive practical activities are of great value and welcomed and supported by the communities, schools, parents and students.II. To carry out comprehensive practical activities in the regions can transform ideology and methods for teaching and learning of both teachers and students, and hence improve the quality and efficiency of classroom teaching.lH. Comprehensive practical activities can not only widen students' knowledge, cultivate the sense of environment preservation and social service and arouse their desire for learning, but also improve their competence in organizing, expressing, composing, communicating and utilizing data and increase their self -experience of nature and society.IV. Teacher training is the key to effective comprehensive practical activities and therefore educational administrative of the regions should pay special attention to teacher training and train teachers in various ways.V. There are many other problems should be studied and solved in having comprehensive practical activities in minorities regions, such as effective guidance for the teachers, the further transfer of ideological ideas for education of students and their parents, the security of the students, sources of funds, etc.
