With the arrival of the new era, knowledge economy inevitably appears, just like what Jiang Zheming said on 100 anniversary of Beijing university: "In the world today, science and technology have developed rapidly, knowledge economy has emerged, the competition of the national power has become intense". In the society of knowledge economy, the quality of talents has been the presupposition of knowledge economy. So the competition of the future world will be that of education and talent resources. Compared with the Western developed countries, the higher education in china less developed, it's difficult to satisfy the demand of competition and existence in the future. It is necessary to develop the higher education. In China the distance higher education (DHE) is a new kind of educational mode which appears together with the current informational technology. Its rapid development will course a great change of the educational structure and learning method. Different from the traditional education, the distance education can enlarge and share the educational resources to satisfy the students' multiple requirements. Due to lack of the educational resources, it will become an important way to develop the higher education. So in this paper it is very significant to make a study and analyze the theory and practice of the DHE.Beginning with the basic conception of DHE, the author applies the basic theories of pedagogy and administrative science to make a further discussion on the problems of the mode of DHE in China.The paper includes 3 parts: Part one. By describing the concept, the characteristic, and the trend of the DHE, and discussing the definition, the constructive factors and the main theories which influence of the DHE mode, the author discusses the theoretic basis of the DHE mode. Part two. Analyzing the classification and thecharacter of DHE, and author discusses the main problems existing in the mode constructing of DHE. Part three. In order to solve the above problems, the author puts forward the concrete ways to reform and optimize the DHE mode.The DHE should be deeply researched since it is a new educational form. Compared with the traditional education, the DHE is indeed different not only in the educational means and ways, but also in the educational thought, contents, and the objects, etc. So we should fully consider and reflect its character in the research. At present there are many modes of DHE in China. Influenced by the thought and mode of the traditional education, they are constructed according to the traditional styles despite the new educational condition and environment, which is not suitable for the law of DHE and the demands of talents. By consulting a lot of works and materials, and with the author's own experience and the knowledge, this paper discusses the problems of the mode constructing of DHE in China. In the end the concrete measures have been brought forward, which is the innovation of this paper.
