| The girl's education in rural areas has always been a difficult problem of China's educational development, which is not only related to the culture mind of women in China's rural areas but also affects the entire nation's progress and social development. With the continuous improvement of China's new Compulsory Education Law and other relevant laws, as well as the implementation of the "two exemptions and one subsidy" policy, the girl's education in rural areas presents unprecedented new features.This article analyses the status quo of girl's education in the rural areas of central Hunan with a focus on junior and senior high school, using the literature studies and empirical research methods combined with the gender theory and educational equality theory. In the period of compulsory education, rural girls in central Hunan basically get the equal opportunity, while there is significant inequality for senior high school girls in access to education. The effectiveness of the education for rural girls is not high. People begin to concern about the improvement of the education quality for girls, their focus having been shifted from the pursuit of number development to the improvement of effectiveness and specificity of girls'education.This paper analyses the influence factors of the girl's education in rural areas in central Hunan from four aspects namely culture, economy, education and law. The integration of the traditional culture "Male superiority" and the modern commodity culture with gender discrimination hinders the development of the girl's education in rural areas. In the long-term urban-rural dual structure, the public input to the rural education for girls are inadequate.The less developed local economy leads to lack of educational needs of girls in rural areas. Too many children in rural families restricts their investment in education for girls. The examination-oriented education model for the purpose of further studies, gender stereotypes in teaching materials, and gender bias presented in the school, are the important obstacles in the development of the rural girl's education in central Hunan. On the legal side, we have a variety of educational legislation which provides legal support for the education of girls. But the gender awareness is not strong in the current laws and regulations related, and the laws are short of operability, furthermore, the legal enforcement in rural areas of central Hunan is weak, therefore, the girl's education in rural areas is lack of strong legal protection. On the basis of the analysis about the education of rural girls in the central Hunan in current situation, the article puts forward some relevant proposals, which are supposed to provide reference to the decision-making of relevant departments of the government. |
