With the continuous progress of the new rural construction and curriculum reform in educational sector, how to improve the quality of rural education and how to improve the professional quality of rural teachers have become a common problem to the society. Government has adjusted the composition of primary schools in rural areas. The combined rural central schools have gathered high-quality educational resources. Their educational conditions are improving gradually. So whether our rural schools and teachers get ready for the changes, and how to build the model of rural teacher professional development, this paper is intended to solve these issues.We have selected a combined primary school as a case which is composed of four small schools. We investigated the actual situation in that school by designed questionnaires, interviews with teachers, participant observation and analysis of existing material. The empirical investigational paper covers four parts, the individual information, work conditions, personal attainment and the basic situation of teacher professional life in school. The last part is the most important. It includes professional environment, means, needs and constraints. The professional means conclude whether held, frequency, emphasis, investment and the effect. By processing and analyzing the data, we found that teacher professional development in case school has a certain particularity. They have worse working conditions, but the potential of professional development is also apparent. The teachers are clustered with the contradiction between the conservative and change, the conflict and competition, personal experience and cooperation together. To solve the problems, we present the following suggestions. Firstly, we should meet the actual needs and aspirations to stimulate the initiative of teachers. Secondly, we can organize the professional teams for every teacher who can participate and cooperate with each other. And also, we should concern about the teaching seminar around class. All in all, school-based model is the most appropriate and effective way. |
