Daniel-Goldman who is a psychology professor in Harvard University stated briefly that succesful depend on 20% of intelligence and 80% of emotional intelligence. Researchers pay more attention on the role of emotional intelligence which affect the development of individual,and the reseach of emotional intelligence in China have been began in the 1990s.Recently,more and more researchers are studying on the emotional intelligence of teen-agers but no one study on the emotional intelligence of special children.In order to enrich the domestic research.this research analyse the level and characteristic of emotional intelligence of the hearing-impaired students in middle school and advices for the parents and the teachers who work in deafing school.This study examines the level and characteristic of emotional intelligence in 141 hearing-impaired students who from four different deaf middle schools in Shanghai by document analysis,questionnaire and interview, and on this basis the influence of the family function,life events,coping style on emotional intelligence are investigated.The results are in the following:l)The characteristics of the hearing-impaired students in middle school of Shanghai are:female lead a higher score than male;the students who come from biparental family are scoring higher than the students who are from another family;but with age,grade,the level of losing hearing and so on, the hearing-impaired students in middle school show no significant difference.2)The problem solving functioning affect the level of emotional intelligence of the hearing-impaired students in middle school.3)The stress of studying and other negative life events pay negative influence on the development of emotional intelligence of the hearing-impaired students in middle school.4)Positive sloving methods promote the development of emotional intelligence of the hearing-impaired students in middle school.Finally,on the basis of analying the level of emotional intelligence and the influence factors of the hearing-impaired students in middle school, several recommendations on the development of emotional intelligence are given.
