Patriotism is the most profound feeling for the motherland which settled down for thousand years; is expressing affection of unlimited loyalty and love to the motherland; is the spiritual motivation to improve all people to overcome difficulties. As an important category of moral education, patriotism plays a core role in all kinds of educational institutions. Tibetan is located in the border areas of China, owing to its particularity of politics, economy, culture and religion, patriotic and traditional cultural education appears considerable important. The primary and secondary period is the key time to help students to develop good moral values and behavior habits, so in this time the patriotic and traditional cultural education is favorable toward students develop healthy personality and promote their socialization process.With the means of documents analysis and investigation, on the basis of a detailed sort of existing research, the author surveyed the situation of patriotic and traditional cultural education in the part of primary and secondary schools in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Region. According to investigation, the author found there were four main problems in patriotic and traditional cultural education in Tibetan area:firstly, education leaders'emphasis and their own literacy need to be improved; secondly, local education resource doesn't play its role in education content, and teachers loosen history and national condition education, national defense and security education; thirdly, the form education is single, teaching means and methods are simple; fourthly, the effectiveness of patriotic and traditional cultural education is poor.The thesis proposes ways and methods to deepen patriotic and traditional cultural education of primary and secondary schools in Tibetan area. First, the departments concerned should further attach importance to patriotic and traditional cultural education in Tibetan area, creating a harmonious social environment. Second, government should increase investment in education to improve school conditions and levels in Tibetan area. Third, carefully grasp the spirit of relevant documents about patriotic education, implementing the specific details and requirements. Forth, schools need rich educational content, actively explore the way that traditional education combining with local traditional culture. Fifth, schools actively expand education methods to make patriotic and traditional cultural education into daily life. Sixth, schools establish mechanisms of patriotic and traditional cultural education training and evaluation, build an institution to respond for patriotic and traditional cultural education affairs and be well taken care of by persons specially designated.
