| Nowadays, the rapid development of knowledge-oriented economy and information technology makes it faster and faster to update and enlarge one's knowledge, which, lead to a profound revolution about education concept, education method and learning method all around the world.Meanwhile, mathematics, which is a very important aspect attach to the development, has infiltrated into people's daily life on all aspects, such as TV, newspaper, network and so on. Mathematics is so common that we can come across many marks or chart that related to it, such as product instruction, stock market coordinate, chart of interest rate in the bank. To understand, predominate and make use of the information completely, it requires us to master a high enough ability of math reading. However, as the "age of knowledge" grows, we, on the one hand, enjoy an increasing on the content of math teaching, but on the other hand, the phenomenon of getting-old knowledge is also getting more and more serious. Therefore, it's obvious that our schools as well as we teachers are not capable enough to prepare enough knowledge for students to develop themselves and survive themselves in the society. That is to say, students'obtaining a significant ability of continuously learning new knowledge is a necessity. So, if we want to enjoy sustainable development not only for ourselves but for the whole society, we need to obtain a thought of lifelong learning, which, is an undeniable reality. While reading, accidently, that provide us knowledge, became a main resource for us to get what we need. Mathematics, which is a science and art as well, has made modern science and the society digital. It's now playing an important part in every aspect of our society. That's why we need to study math, and also that's why, we, as a teacher, should guide students to achieve their own aims in the development of math. To sum up, developing the ability of independent reading to gain knowledge of math is particularly important.Mathematical language, which is the target of math reading and used to distinguish other language, contains word language, symbol language and chart language. It's more professional, simple, precise and formal. Mathematical language comes from our daily life, but it has been abstracted many times, thus, it not what we think it was (just math). That is to say, people's ability of mathematical language plays a significant part in improving their ability of math reading. However, when referring to class teaching, math reading is not so important in teaching these days. The bad condition of students'math reading worries a lot. To get a clear idea of the math reading condition of students, we do a survey on 160 students of grade two from Xishi Affiliated Middle School, Beibei, Chongqing.According to the survey, some problems aroused:first, students don't actually know what math reading is; second, students lack of the awareness of independent reading; third, students lack of a good habit of reading; forth, students lack of the ability of self-control; fifth, teachers don't have a clear mind about the math reading; sixth, students are not so interested in extracurricular math reading. Form the above problems, we can draw a conclusion that students have problems in distinguishing mathematical, understanding mathematical language, switching mathematical language and the construction of the mathematical language. We also found that teachers do not do well in math language when they are having classes. In a word, both teachers and students need to be improved, the former in demonstration of teaching, the later in independent math reading. After profound interviews to teachers and careful observes of the daily life of students, we drew another conclusion that the reason why math reading is in such a passive position is that both students and teachers have more or less baffle sin mathematical language. And so we come up with three strategies to try to solve these problems and to improve teachers'teaching and students'math learning, especially to improve students'math reading skill according to teachers'effort:first, develop students'interest towards math reading; second, grasp the important point and switch it in the right time; third, teach differently based on different content of classes and students. Rome was not built in one day, so was the students'ability of math reading. It's a necessary that teachers develop not just theirs but also students'reading ability throughout their classes. |
