A Survey On The Physics Teachers' Views On Effective Teaching In Senior High School Western China

With the continuous and deepening development of the New Basic Curriculum Reform in China, growing attention is paid to Effective Teaching. On the one hand, teachers are the practitioners of teaching activities, and they not only have deeper understanding of effective teaching but also can feel what it really means. On the other hand, teachers have close contact with effective teaching as for the research. However, little attention that related to their effective teaching was paid to them. Studying effective teaching from the angle of teachers and solving the problems related to it, therefore, are significantly important for application.With the training network platform, this thesis studied the following two aspects by online surveys and interviews with physics teachers of the National Training Plan for Senior High School physics teachers in 2010. First, researches were carried out to a great number of senior high school physics teachers who have taken part in the National Training Plan for Secondary School Teachers, which is a program for the teachers' provincial distance-training of curriculum reform experiment for senior high schools implemented by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2010. All the teachers came from Sichuan, Chongqing and other 4 provinces and this thesis aims at getting information about their understanding of the effective teaching. According to the initial research, the second research aims at getting further understanding of the strategies and means of effective teaching carried out by senior high school physics teachers in order to get some suggestions and inspirations from it.Synthesizing the two researches, we can get the following conclusions:1. As for the connotation of effective teaching, compared to the prevailing connotation of effective teaching at present, senior high school physics teachers in the western China are more likely to confirm the connotation of effective teaching from the angle of "student learning". Strong interests of students, students'learning to use and making progress or getting advancement are regarded as the most remarkable features of effective teaching. However, it is considered in the views of qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis is much less.2. As for the misunderstanding about effective teaching, "the higher marks students get, the more effective", "the more active in class, and the more effective" are overwhelmingly regarded as misunderstanding of effective teaching, especially the former one.3. As for the assessment of effective teaching, it is not beneficial for the implementation of effective teaching if certain standards or elements are over assessed. It is necessary to perfect the assessment system of effective teaching and eliminate the thoughts of attaching too much to assess certain elements of effective teaching, which need further efforts to this research either.4. Different factors have different effects on the implementation of effective teaching for physics teachers. Teaching equipment is the most important weapon for the implementation of effective teaching as for the implementation methods of effective teaching. While the basic capability of students is universally regarded as one of the most important elements that affect effective teaching.
