As an emerging tool of educational management, School Development Planning (SDP) can improve school management performance and quality of education efficiently, it is an effective way to establish modern school systems and to implement school-based management, it has become one of the difficult and hot issues of educational reform and development of China in recent years. School situation analysis is the basis of SDP, the entire process of school development planning is based on correct school situation analysis.It can analyse current situations of a school comprehensively and objectively with systematic dialectical way of thinking and methods.It enables a school to make certain of its realistic basis of survival and development and to orientate itself correctly,thus to provide scientific and objective foundation for formulation of school development planning in the future.It has great significance to the schools'reform and development with the background of new curriculum.Adopting methods of document analysis and case analysis, with the central theme of school situation analysis viewed from SDP perspective,this study probes into the use and significance of systematic,objective and scientific school situation analysis to the formulation of SDP, theoretical basis of school situation analysis,what kinds of scientific principles school situation analysis should follow,approaches of information gathering during the process of school situation analysis,and practical analysis tools and methods of school situation analysis,etc.This study emphasizes the creative use of SWOT Analysis, Delphi Method,and Benchmarking in school situation analysis.With comparatively new perspective,guided by system theory,complex theory and bounded rationality theory,this study makes use of general analyzing methods which are prevalent in business management and applies them to the practice of school situation analysis after selection,analysis,process,remodity and innovation of the methods.Combining research of genuine school cases in reality,this study probes deeply into the realistic operability of relative analyzing methods in educational activities and makes every effort to make them play their proper roles and serve the practice of schools'reform and development with the background of new curriculum.
