With the rapid development of society, there are an increasing number of the questions. Faced with such issues as the extreme pursuit of material ends and the lack of humanistic spirit, more and more people begin to reflect on education. Thus the cultivation of humanistic spirit has become a concern throughout the education circles. The subject, Chinese, shoulders the important mission of humane education. It is because these philosophical articles contain a large number of humanistic spirits that students not only gain the knowledge but also develop a healthy personality, a positive attitude towards life, and good humanistic qualities through the learning of textbooks. However, the worst is that the teaching of Chinese, especially Chinese in high school, suffer from a serious loss of humanistic spirit at present. This thesis explores the influence of Confucianism on the development of student's humanism, and focuses on the current status of middle school students thinking as well as the significance of the impact of Confucian Thought on the students.This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one discusses the significance of Confucian Thought in developing the middle school students' humanistic spirit, based on High School Language Curriculum Standards. Chapter two makes an analysis and elaboration on the several original works of The Analects of Confucius, The Mencius, and Xunzi, reflecting further on the impacts of Confucianism on the high school textbooks. Chapter three is the main body of the thesis, in which the current situations of ideologies of middle school students and the reasons for it are analyzed in detail. This analysis in this part mainly provides a reflection on the ways how to achieve the students' humanistic spirit through Confucianism in the process of teaching. Here the Discovery Teaching method is given more attention to. Chapter four is a conclusion, in which the writer mainly discusses the gains and losses of teaching the subject Selected Readings of the Analects of Confucius in the expectation of improving the significance of Confucianism on students'humanistic spirit.
