The mainstream ideology is an ideological doctrine system , which has accounted for the guiding position or the dominant position in one society and has served the fundamental interests of the ruling class. In contemporary China, the mainstream ideology is a socialist ideology and regards Marxism as the guideline. It is a continuously developing and innovative theory, including Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, "Three Represents" and the scientific concept of development.In the country's political life, the mainstream ideology plays a huge role, such as to justify the legitimacy of the regime , to mobilize and motivate members of society, to achieve social integration, and so on. Therefore, since ancient times, Chinese and foreign politicians, thinkers attached great importance to the construction and education of the mainstream ideology. For the mainstream ideology education, Marxist classical writers, the Western Marxists, four generations of the Chinese Communist Party leaders have made a penetrating exposition, leaving us valuable theoretical legacy and the spiritual wealth.As to the problem of mainstream ideology education of undergraduates, Chinese and foreign scholars have also made corresponding research. Domestic scholars mainly discussed it from the aspects of its significance, content, approaches, status response, comparison of China and foreign countries. Nevertheless, these researches were inadequate, which were reflected in three aspects. The first was the lack of empirical research, for the scholars paid more attention on judgemental and empirical study. The second was little using the method of quantitative analysis. The third was that the study viewpoint was single and the level-oriented was not strong. In view of its huge significance in our country, these deficiencies must be solved. So the author made the further research. Following were the main research content.Firstly, the author used empirical measurement to solve problems . These problems refered to the mianstream ideology identity status and education condition of contemporary undergraduates,and different views for mainstream ideology identity among different undergraduate groups. Then the author went on the factor analysis and multiple comparision in this context.Secondly, the author attempted to reveal various factors of influencing the mainstream ideology education of contemporary undergraduates, as well as their challenge for undergraduates. In analyzing the problem, the author tried to contact with reality and keep pace with social development. In this case, the author discussed the factors of influencing the mainstream ideology education of contemporary undergraduates from different aspects. These aspects related to the external environment of education, the education itself, the social structure change, economic globalization, information network and social consciousness differentiation. Meanwhile, the author found out the problems existing in the mainstream ideology education of contemporary undergraduates.Thirdly, in order to promote the development of mainstream ideology education of comtemporary undergraduates, the author used a systematic way to research it, from the content and methods to approach. From the author's research, feasible mechanism and measures can be carried out.
