| Nowdays,investigating educational problem from the angle of sex is one of the important topics.The author uses female characters as research objects, and analyzes them from frequency and image, and gender stereotypes of female characters are revealed. The author also interviews textbook writers, kindergarten teachers, parents, young children respectively about female characters in textbooks to learn their knowledge of characters on textbook and the concept of gender they hold. Based on the results of the research, relevant proposals are put forward to the textbook writers, kindergarten teachers and parents。The paper is consisted of five chapters:Chapter I: Introduction. Firstly, researching background and meaning are introduced. Children's books in kindergarten materials are the initial text that children contact. Determining the nature of the female characters in the textbooks has certain effect on the socialization of children gender characters. Secondly, by means of collecting relevant information on kindergarten materials, the author finds the research data on female characters in kindergarten materials need to be perfected.Chapter II: Research Design. The author uses female characters as research objects, and analyzes them by the means of text analysis. When collecting data, the interview method using stories in textbooks as a platform is also adapted. Four stories about female characters are selected, and textbook writers and related personnel of using them are interviewed.Chapter III: Analysis of Female Characters in Kindergarten Materials. Firstly, the frequency of female characters is counted and analyzed, and an overview of female characters is made from three aspects respectively: textbook cover, table of contents and the total number of female characters. Secondly, the female characters in the story text and anthropomorphic female characters are analyzed. Finally the image of mother and female teachers of the materials are analyzed. It's found that the overall number of occurrences of girls'characters in textbooks is less than normal, and the lack of diversifying adult female characters also exists.Chapter IV: The Understanding of Female Characters in Textbooks Children. Structured interviews were used to textbook writers, preschool teachers, parents, young children on gender issues in kindergarten materials. The author finds that textbook writers are no aware of gender when compiling textbooks, teachers don't realize the biases against women in textbooks, and few teachers paid attention to gender perspective in the teaching process. Although parents recognized the importance of gender education, the way they educate children in daily life is biased.Chapter V: Reflections and Suggestions. According to the above conclusions, the author suggests that the textbook writers should have gender perspective when they compile textbooks and show diversifying female characters in materials. To reduce the influence of determining the nature of female characters in textbook on girls, it's suggested that the kindergarten teachers should use flexible teaching methods in teaching process and interpret female characters diversely. Parents of young children are also proposed to carry out appropriate gender education in families. In the end, the author reflects the shortcomings of this research... |
