With the development of the society, all the countries in the world are paying more and more attention to preschool education. The outline of the national plan for the medium-term and long-term educational reform and development (2010-2020) also mentions that preschool education should be basically popularized in China as the education plays a significant role in the development of children's physical and mental health, the cultivation of habits and the intelligence development. As a comprehensive discipline and part of the national quality education, geography contributes to the improvement of comprehensive quality of citizens. Therefore, the geographical education occupies an important part in the preschool education because it helps children both get to know and understand the environment where the human being belongs and form their life experience. And the geographical education is also helpful to the patriotism education and the cultivation of children's environmental protection consciousness and the formation of the preliminary idea of environment.At present, the Executive Detailed Rules for Kindergarten Education Guidelines (Trial rules) reads:the kindergarten education goals should be achieved in the five domains of education which include health, language, society, art and science. The education emphasizes inter-pervasion, combination and the accordance with the rules of education. The main geographic contents mentioned in the detailed rules are covered in the education domains of society and science. Adopting the sampling survey method, the writer made the preliminary study and analysis of the problems and potential advantages of the geographical education in the kindergartens in Beijing on the basis of a full investigation, putting forward the proposals on how to improve the geographical education approaches in the kindergartens.The proposals include:(1) Games are the bridges to children's real world. (2) The comprehensive activities are the important ways for children to gain knowledge and experience. (3) Children are involved in learning mainly by means of the scientific inquiry activities. (4) The application of modern information technology is a support for children to gain ample experience. (5)The designs of kindergarten and class environment are the auxiliary means to carrying out the educational activities. (6) Making teaching aids promotes the development of children's cognition. (7) The regional activities make children gain knowledge and experience by participation. (8) The rich designs of teaching are the supports for children to get more knowledge. (9) Carrying out social activities enables children to get direct experience. (10)The use of the interest maps develops children's life skills. The contents above are for reference only. The writer hopes this thesis can be conductive to the geographical education development in the kindergartens in Beijing, which can make children gain more geographic knowledge, life experience and common sense accordingly.
