Grammar teaching is a part of Middle school's Chinese teaching, which holds an important position in Chinese teaching. In the 1990s, a long discussion about"diluting grammar teaching"was launched, and the current situation of grammar in Chinese teaching is not optimistic, which is represented as the following points: (1) students'attitude toward grammar learning is indifferent. (2) grammar learning in middle school lacks systematicness. (3) students learn Chinese grammar with the help of English learning. (4) they lack senior high school grammar. The teaching method of"diluting grammar"can cause three negative effects: firstly, students'composition level is widely lowered. Secondly, language level is generally decreased. Thirdly, it brings negative effects to literary Chinese learning and English study. The thesis through argumentation, strives to cause people's attention and thinking over grammar teaching, which makes a deserved position for grammar teaching as well as proposes corresponding way of exploration directing the current situation of grammar teaching and its ill effects.This thesis is composed of three parts: the first part is introduction including statement of problems, literature review, research meaning and methodology. The statement part gives the significance of grammar teaching and the consequences of"diluting grammar teaching"; the next part specifies theories and alteration of the requirements of grammar teaching, teaching system, the contents, the method and training styles in syllabus design after founding of China; as to the significance of the thesis, there are tree points:(1) for edification of mother tongue passion (2) for integration of Chinese ability (3) for effective and scientific development of grammar teaching in junior high school. The second part is about the survey of grammar learning condition and analysis of the findings, in which the author does questionnaire survey over junior and senior high school students and makes statistics of the results and summarizes reasons of the problems. The third part is an exploration of the effectiveness of grammar teaching in middle school, as well as provides four measurements: to strengthen the establishment of grammar teaching material, to complete grammar teaching mechanism, to construct various training methods and to enhance self-improvement of Chinese teachers.The author adopts such methods like literature, survey method and case study method in the thesis. The author uses literature method to sum up pre-existing research findings, and makes some innovation which makes the thesis more persuasive and scientific; the questionnaire surveys gives a general comprehension of current situation of authentic teaching; the case study method is used to connect with Chinese teaching in order to identify the problems clearly.
