Research On Compatibility Between Sports Event And City

Being a part of the research on how the cities choose sports events, compatibility between sports event and city aims to find the baseline of cities to accept an event, but not the optimization of events. The compatibility rules can be used as a tool for a city to judge whether an event can be introduced. If they are compatible, the event is qualified; conversely, the event cannot be hosted in the city. But the confirmation of compatibility rules is a complex progress, which need residents, government and firms to join efforts. From the standpoint of residents, this paper tries to acquire the public opinion on compatibility between sports event and cities, to analyze the common demands for sports event, thus provide some guide to confirmation of overall compatibility rules.Trough the methods of documentation, mathematical statistics, ogic analysis and expert interview, this paper can be divided into two parts. One is theory research, it defines the concept of compatibility and compatibility between sports event and cities basing on analysis of compatibility phenomenon and literature analysis of compatibility, and set up the system and structure and compatibility rules. The other is questionnaire survey. The questionnaire is designed according to system of compatibility rules to get the understanding of compatibility of between sports event and city. The survey covers urban districts of yang-pu,hong-kou,jing-an,pu-tuo,zha-bei and xu-hui.The main conclusions are as following:(1) The compatibility between sports event and city is mean to host the sports event, which meets the demands of the city and doesn't conflict with the basic principle and can exist for a long time.(2)Compatibility has two key rules, one is quality rule and the other is capacity rule. Quality rule means the sports event cannot conflict with the culture and political factor and safety of the city; capacity rule means the need of sports event within the city capacity of labor, material,finance,time,Natural environment and so on.(3) The public survey shows that in terms of quality compatibility, Shanghai people pay more attention to the compatibility between events and city image and city traditional culture and that they regard the political factor is less important in compatibility between them and rank traffic safety, terrorist and propagation of disease as top three safety problems may brought by sports event.(4) The public survey displays that in terms of capacity compatibility, the majority of Shanghai people accept the events which bring significant benefit to the city image, employment etc while have large deficit because of high bid fee. And they also support the government give grant-in-aid to this kind of sport events. In addition, Shanghai people express their understanding to the inconvenient traffic caused by sports event.
