Vocabulary teaching in reading class is one of the most indispensable parts in junior high school English teaching. And vocabulary is the essential foundation for students'English learning. Thus, we need to study how to make the vocabulary teaching in Junior high school English reading class more efficient and effective. Recent years, along with the development of the vocabulary teaching studies in English reading class, many scholars poured much energy into different sections of this field, and they have already got some findings. But from their studies, it is found that the study of vocabulary teaching in Junior high school English reading class is still deficient and even the systematic investigation is put on the agenda inadequately.This thesis mainly takes Kranshen's second language acquisition as the theoretical base, and questionnaires and interview are used as the instruments of data collection. Based on the data collected, this paper tries to find the imperfect aspects and problems, and give some suggestions in order to improve vocabulary teaching.This paper has five chapters. The first part focuses on the introduction, which illustrates the research background and points out the significance of the study. This study mainly explores the current situation of vocabulary teaching in junior high school English reading class, and tries to find out the subjective and objective reasons leading to the problems and obstacles, and give some feasible suggestions in order improve vocabulary teaching.The second chapter is concerned with literature review. This part firstly touches upon some relevant studies on reading. In addition, this chapter states the nature of vocabulary and the vocabulary teaching. Finally, Kranshen's second language acquisition theory is introduced, which is the theoretical framework of this study.The third chapter focuses on the research methodology. In this study, questionnaire and interview are used in order to investigate the current situation of vocabulary teaching in junior high school reading class. And inductive method is employed to analyze the data. The fourth chapter studies the collected data. Based on the results investigated, the. problems and obstacles of vocabulary teaching in reading class are found. And this thesis puts forward some innovative ideas and teaching patterns for improving the current situation and perfecting the vocabulary teaching in junior English reading class.The fifth part is the conclusion. This chapter summarizes the main findings of study and points out the limitations of this study and future research directions as well.
