As the product of Chinese higher education reform in new situation, the independent colleges play a significant role in Chinese higher education with rapidly development. Ideological and moral quality is the key factor of qualities of talents. However, the students of independent colleges are a special group. They have their comparatively special family background, economic condition, ideological and cognitive level, psychological development level and comparatively lower entrance scores. In order to develop the ideological and moral education work effectively, we must analyze these characters, and pursuit the policy to enhance the ideological and moral education work according to these basics. It's necessary for us to improve our recognition, reinforce the organizations, and perfect the mechanism. Based on the enhancement and cultivation of high-qualified ideological and moral work team, we should control the school rule of independent college, innovate the ideological and moral education method, and enhance the appeal and effectiveness of ideological and moral education work.The thesis starts from the analysis of the connotation of ideological and moral education in independent colleges and then expatiates on its great practical significance for the growth of students and the healthy and sustainable development of independent colleges themselves. With that, the thesis further analyzes the particularities of independent college students in their ways of thinking, study, enjoyment, behaving and mental development in comparison with students of other kinds of colleges. The third part deals with the status quo of the ideological and moral education in independent colleges and the major problems. The major problems analyzed are as follows.1. The cost-benefit perspective of education lowers the position of ideological and moral education.2. The environment of ideological and moral education in independent colleges is poor.3. The ideological and moral education in independent colleges faces challenges from changing society.4. The team for ideological and moral education in independent colleges is not well and fully staffed.5. The institutions and systems for ideological and moral education are not well established. The objective and subjective causes for the problems have been explored in the thesis. Objectively, the current social environment and the students' family conditions pose unprecedented challenges for ideological and moral education in independent colleges and, the insufficient funding for ideological and moral education affects its effective operation. Subjectively, independent colleges have not been fully aware of the importance of ideological and moral education and have not well adapted themselves to the new environment in the content, forms and methods of their ideological and moral education.Based on that, the thesis mainly investigates the following five points as strategies to strengthen the ideological and moral education in independent colleges. They are how to raise the awareness of its importance, how to organizationally and institutionally guarantee its effectiveness, how to perfect its operation system, how to form a high-quality work team and how to innovate educational approaches in accordance with conditions of the independent colleges. These points investigated will be of at least some reference value to the ideological and moral education in independent colleges.
