The report to the 16th National Party Congress calls for the establishment of a learning society in which all the people will learn or even pursue life-long education. Against this background, the research on the learning obstacles of the students of distance learning has attracted extensive public attention, which highlights the significance of the research on this area. Therefore, the study on the various obstacles and difficulties in distance learning is of great theoretical and practical significance.Through theoretical analysis and questionnaire survey, this research intends to analyze and explore the various factors which constitute the obstacles for the students of distance learning. Based on that, the research takes the background factor of the students as the variable and discusses on the difference in the learning obstacles and the correlation between learning obstacles and motivation. In this way, it finds out the causes of those obstacles and proposes several suggestions and strategies for overcoming and eliminating them.This research focuses on analyzing the relevant factors that lead to the learning obstacles and propose the strategies for removing them through conducting an empirical study. The major difficulty lies in the design of the questionnaire because there still lacks a measurement scale for measuring the learning obstacles of those students. As a result, we can only design the questionnaire on the basis of relevance former theoretical research. The credibility of the questionnaire has to be tested through conducting a small-scale trial.This research adopts the approach of documentary analysis and questionnaire analysis. Its research tool is the questionnaire on the learning obstacles of the students of distance learning. The research subject is Dezhou Radio and Television University (now merged into Dezhou Vocational and Technical College).After collecting the questionnaires, we used SPSS12.0 to process all the data and conduct the analysis. Statistical methods included descriptive statistics, t test and ANOVA. The main conclusions of this research are as follows:⑴The students of distance learning demonstrate strong learning obstacles. They include seven factors: supporting service obstacle, teaching and learning design obstacle, autonomous learning ability obstacle, distance learning ability obstacle, time management obstacle, technology support obstacle and knowledge application obstacle.⑵The subjects are of different sex, marriage status, age, level of learning, years of working and learning experience. They have vastly different orientations in learning obstacles.⑶The motivations of the students will have divergent influence on their learning obstacles.Through the statistical analysis on the questionnaires, the time management obstacle turns out to be the strongest. The correlation between the internal motivation and external motivation of the student and the"time management obstacle"is as high as 0.01. Therefore, we can draw the conclusion that some of the obstacles can be removed through improving the motivation.The success of distance learning depends more on the initiative and autonomic learning awareness of the students, which requires improvement on the motivation. Distance learning institutions and teachers should offer their help in this aspect. Through understanding the features of distance learning and clarifying the meaning and purpose of interaction, they should help improve the students'awareness on interaction awareness of students and enhance their initiative. Therefore, they can offer necessary help and assistance to the students and improve learning effect.Rich teaching and learning resources are a key factor for the success of the students of distance learning. The teaching and learning resources of distance education are mainly embodied in the course learning resources. The way of establishing the structure and content of course learning resources no doubt constitutes a key link in improving the course development level. Improving the course development level is a preparation for establishing rich teaching and learning resources. We should pay attention to the feature of a subject or course in order to set up corresponding function module. Moreover, we should actively explore a way to establish an open mechanism for building and sharing teaching and learning resources under the guidance of the concept of"sharing courses, sharing teachers". We should give full play to the teacher resources of colleges, enhance the communication among the colleges and within a college, increase cooperation between colleges and radio and television universities. In this way, we can gradually cultivate a series of quality multi-media teaching and learning resources and excellent courses. Through the methods of appraisal, study, discuss and recommendation, we can facilitate the building and sharing of courses.A key factor in ensuring the smooth completion of the studies of the students is the gradual establishment and improvement of distance learning service system and the adoption of standardized management. Distance learning institutions should attach importance not only to the supporting service of teaching content but also to the consultation and guidance on the learning methods. Meanwhile, they should study and understand the practical needs and mentality of their students and shift from traditional knowledge service to whole-course and full service.
