Modern education's important connotation is outstanding student's main body status. Education fairness is the foundation of social fairness and justice. To realize the integration of urban and rural areas, we should improve the education content in rural areas. Man's free all-round development calls self-education. Training the junior middle school students' ability of self-education has important significance in improving the quality of education in rural areas, improving the integration of urban and rural areas as well as the middle school students' healthy growth.Based on the achievements of the studies in self-education and the problems of present situation, this thesis analyzes and studies the current situation of the junior middle school students in rural areas. The present problems lie in the ignorance of junior middle school students'self-education, which, in turn, results in the fact that the attention paid to the study concerning junior middle school students'self-education is far from enough. The author of this thesis has conducted a series of surveys and finds that at present junior middle school students still do not have awareness of self-education. Besides, schools, parents and the society should have played a more important role. There are several reasons for the problems. One reason is that there is not a good environment in schools, in families as well as in society for junior middle school students to develop their self-education. Another reason is that junior middle school students do not have many chances of involvements in both school life and social practice. The factor that junior middle school students cannot receive appropriate guide from the educators also attributes to the problem. Having studied these reasons carefully, we think we should create a better environment in schools, in families as well as in society for junior middle school students to develop their self-education. And curriculum reform is also quite necessary. As for schools, we should consider taking such measures as building up a new system for junior middle students to develop their self-education. Apart from all that has been mentioned above, high-qualified teachers and excellent cultural atmosphere in schools are of equal importance. The study of junior middle school students'self-education is a complicated task, which still needs further and more systematic research.
