| Liaoning Province is well acknowledged as one of the greatest sports provinces in China, with a large number of sports talents and a high competitive level. It has been trying to set up high-level sports teams in its colleges and universities ever since 1986 when the former State Sports Commission and State Education Commission held a meeting in Ye County, Shandong Province. After 20 years of development, these sports teams have achieved remarkable success. Some universities such as Liaoning University and Northeastern University take the lead in implementing the combination of education with sports. They recruit high-level athletes and integrate training with teaching in order to bring up more world-level athletes. This development pattern shifts its focus from sports schools to ordinary colleges or high schools and combines sports training together with course study. In the long run, it will not only enhance students'quality, changing their "simple-minded" stereotype and preparing them for more channels of employment, but also pave the way for cultivating more competent athletes and coaches in the future. However, when it comes to CUBA games of recent years, the women's basketball teams in Liaoning colleges and universities do not perform as well as expected, while the teams in other provinces have witnessed rapid growth. Therefore, it is a key issue for us to further explore the potentials of colleges and universities, discover more talents and train them in a more scientific way so as to improve the overall level of women's basketball teams. This paper is a thorough analysis and research on 12 typical women's basketball teams in Liaoning colleges and universities, with an aim to find the problems and explore the effective measures. It adopts such research methods as literature review, questionnaire survey, interviews and mathematical statistics, and arrives at its findings as follows. Liaoning Province has a good mass basis for basketball, and its women's basketball teams have ranked first three many times in National College Students' Sports Meet as well as in other college basketball games of different levels. But the current situation does not look promising as a result of low competitive level on the whole and unsound competition system. The existing problems include ambiguous guiding ideas and development objectives, deficient expenses for training and matches, the conflicts between education and training, a small number of matches, short reserves of basketball talents, and trainers'limited investment into training and research. The paper puts forward some solutions in these regards in order to promote the competitive level of all women's basketball teams, broaden the cultivation channels and finally, ensure the healthy and orderly basketball development in Liaoning colleges and universities. |
