Cohort Analysis Of Life Satisfaction For Shanghai Elderly Based On The Follow-Up Surveys

Along with the more-extended aging and Scientific Outlook on Development being rooted the hearts of the people; the government society cares a lot about the old age security all the better. In Shanghai, one of the economically more developed cities, elderly put a high premium on improving the quality of life under the circumstances that they have been provided rather compelete retirement pension system and medical security. Life satisfaction of elderly is an important scale to judge his quality of life. According to the sampling survey data named Shanghai Elderly Population Status and Desire and engaged by Shanghai Research Center on Aging in 2003 and 2008, this paper is to analyze the life satisfaction and its influence factors for elderly cohort.The main contents are as follows:1. Review the comments and narrations for those domestic and foreign researches concerning elderly life satisfaction and expatiate its theory basis and influence factors;2. Analyse the different change and influence factors of life satisfaction for Shanghai elderly cohort;3. Analyse the change of life satisfaction for elderly cohort influenced by the change of single dimension satisfactions;4. Analyse the change of life satisfaction for elderly cohort influenced by the change of different factors;5. Comparison of the change of factors and prediction analysis of the change of life satisfaction.The study came to these conclusions:The life satisfaction level of Shanhai elderly cohort fell down in the latter survey, but had a quite small change on the whole. The important influence factors on life satisfaction are self-evaluation of economic condition, self-evaluation of health condition and the relationship with family. The change of these three factors and well-being will bring the direct change of life satisfaction. Besides, elderly life satisfaction is directly related to some single dimension satisfactions such as esteem, communication with children, health condition and so on. As a result, to improve elderly overall life satisfaction, more important thing is to cultivate a harmonious and flexible atmosphere for elderly, apart from giving attention to their evaluations of elderly's pension and health conditions. The goal is to make elderly be involed in the society for all ages.
