Mass incident is destructive to social and economy system. It occurs frequently in recent years and arouses great attention. Illustrated in ShiShou mass incident and Urumqi "7·5" mass incident, which are two typical samples, this essay raises up the problems in mass incident media reporting, including government perfunctorily avoiding and information blocking, not timely and detailed media reporting, active rumors in the network, some media's speculation, tendency of mainstream media.Based on case study, this essay further explores the problems in mass incident reporting, for example, traditional publicity concept, inadequate attention to rumors, media not fully playing the role of public opinion diversion and so on.At last, this essay raises up advice for traditional media in mass incident reporting as follows:getting rid of old concept and enhancing media's role in public opinion surveillance, interviewing timely and thoroughly, playing the role of communication and guidance, being objective and fair, taking the advantage of high credibility in audience.
