| After the post-WWII, the Philippine-U.S. security relations have mainly experienced three stages: the issue that predominantly shaped Philippine-U.S. relations from 1946 to 1992 was the American military bases. In 1992, the U.S. withdrew its last batch of military troops from the Philippines, the once-strong and once-special Philippine-American relations had essentially become moribund. From 1992 to 2001, both countries were unable to find a new and mutually acceptable defense relationship until 1999 when the Philippine Senate ratified the Philippine-American Visiting Forces Agreement. After 2001, both countries have gradually intensified their security relations, especially the joint military exercise called Balikatan2002-l reinvigorated the Philippine-American security alliance and made their security relations arrive its peak.On the basis of complete analysis of the Philippine-American security relations of post-WWII, the author find out that the Philippine-U.S. mutual interests play an important and key role in their security relations. In the future, although there may be some obstacles or even countermarch, the Philippine-U.S. security relations will be stable and fast as a whole and won't be in the form of military bases any longer. |
