The rural-urban fringe is an area which is situated between city and countryside and has transitional characteristics of city and countryside. So the country in it is a sort of special one. The special regional condition contributes to the development of agricultural and rural economy. Meanwhile it brings more complexity.Chongqing is the unique municipality directly under the Central Government in the Western China. It plays an important role on the development of the Southwestern and Western and even the whole country's economy. But there are still such problems urgent to solve as the dual structure of city and country. Facing the new situation Chongqing must quicken the step of rural economy to change the present dual structure and to enhance the economy on the whole. As the country in the rural-urban fringe of the major city proper whose agricultural and rural development plays a significant exemplary and transmitting role.Based on the interpretation on relative theories and the object reality this thesis gives a preliminary inquiry and study. This thesis is divided into five parts:Part one makes a demarcation line on the rural-urban fringe of Chongqing's major city proper and gives an explanation on the overall features.Part two analyses the present situation and traits of this country's economic development.Part three is a functional orientation of this country's future development in the new circumstances.Part four: According to the current situation and the functional orientation this part proposes the strategies and countermeasures to accelerate this country's development. It includes:(1) Integration of urban and rural area;(2) Industrialization of agriculture;(3) Thriving country depending on science and education(4) Regional coordinated growth(5) Sustainable development Part five is conclusion.
