"Monthly Literature", established since 15th August 1930, changed its name to"Monthly Literature·Wartime Special"on October 21, 1937 after the breakout of Anti-Japanese War, following a new volume number."Monthly Literature·Wartime Special"is one of the most influential journals in the pre-wartime literary world. Its outstanding characteristics not only allow for the pioneering efforts of founding the"Literary Association"to have united the literary workers nationwide, but also spur on the positive development of anti-war literature. Studying"Monthly Literature·Wartime Special"may enable a more in-depth understanding of the role played by literary theory on the frontline anti-war efforts. We study it as a whole, to be illustrated in three parts.In the first part, we introduce its characteristics as a journal, ranging from the principle, editing philosophy and its translation and spreading, in order to provide an outline thereof.In the second part, we correlate it with anti-war activities in our description. First, we make a analytical study into its relations with Literary Association. Secondly, we analyzed the literary activities during Chongqing Period. In doing this, we may know its promoting role in home-front anti-war activities.The third part focuses on literary commentary. We analyzed it from a perspective of author. We have realized the consistency of writers'opinions on literary theories, that is, literature to serve not only anti-war activities, but also quest for the artistry."Monthly Literature? Wartime Special"is a key literary journal in wartime, providing a new access to the entire understanding of pre-wartime literary development. This study will facilitate the overall investigation into wartime literature.
