The Studies On The Village Conventions Of Xinjiang In Yang Zengxin's Period

The period of late Qing and early Republic is a crucial period in history when the Chinese traditional society transfers to modern society. This is no exception to one of our northwest parts—Xinjiang province. The burke system which is popular in the south of Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty no longer fits the needs of the developing history, so another system—Village Convention System replaced it. Village convention system is a basic administrative system in ancient society. In the early period of Republic of China, the mainland conventions go to declining and gradually withdraw from the stage of history. While the Xinjiang conventions develop greatly, and reach its peak during YangZengxin's period. Because of the complex humanistic and geographical environment, the conventions of Yang's period presented obvious regional characteristics, which compared to the mainland conventions of our feudal period. This article will make a systematical research of this period's conventions on the basis of the previous studies.The thesis makes a study from the following aspects:The first section mainly elaborates about the emergence of China's Village Convention System and its development. Since Bao-Jia system and Li-Jia system both are important primary social systems in ancient China, it is essential to make a contrastive description to them. In addition, this part also studies comprehensively about the emergence and development of County Conventions in Xinjiang Province. The second part tells about Yang Zengxin's attitude towards village conventions and his treatment measures.The third part describes about the characteristics of the village conventions, and then discusses about their role in the rural society of Yang Zengxin's period.The fourth part makes an exploration to the function of the village conventions, so as to facilitate a comprehensive understanding about it in this period.In the last part, it argues about the relationship between the village convention System and the primary administrative power, for the village conventions is a basic administrative system; taking into account the direct domination object of the county conventions ---the farmers, the author also discusses in this part about the relationship between the county conventions and farmers.The purpose of this article is: through the research of the conventions of Yang's period, we can get better understanding of Xinjiang's basic social status in the period of the Republic of China. These conventions not only affect Yang's control of rural society, but also facilitate the development of rural society. Through concentrated discussion on centralized system during the period of Yang Zengxin, to make up the academic research of Yang Zengxin's education, the international relations, ethnic group judicial and military affairs included, but they ignore the deficiency on some basic social conventions, such as local rules, and promote the complete understanding of Yang Zengxin's status and role in the history of Xinjiang.
