In order to complete the reading comprehension effectively, the reader must be able to effectively monitor the process of reading comprehension and if necessary, to adopt appropriate strategies to regulate and control the reading activity, which is regarded as metacognition activity, or metacomprehension in reading process. It is the research focus on how to improve metacomprehension monitoring accuracy. Anchoring effect is judgment deflection which is common but difficult to eliminate. People's judgments and decisions will be adversely affected by anchoring effect. Since the anchoring effect is widespread, will it affect the immediate metacomprehension monitoring? This study attempts to combine metacomprehension with anchoring effect, and explore the existence of the anchoring effect in the course of immediate metacomprehension monitoring. If it exists, we attempt to reduce the anchoring effect and improve the immediate metacomprehension monitoring accuracy. This study includes two experiments:The first experiment explores the existence of the anchoring effect in the course of immediate metacomprehension monitoring. On the basis of the first experiment, the second experiment explores whether it can reduce the impact of anchoring effect on immediate metacomprehension monitoring by reducing the uncertainty of test scenario. If it dose so, we can obtain that anchoring effect is one of the reasons for the low accuracy of immediate metacomprehension monitoring. Furthermore, we can improve the immediate metacomprehension monitoring accuracy by reducing the impact of anchoring effect. In the first experiment 92 freshmen are chosen as subjects. We use E-prime to study the impact of anchoring effect for metacomprehension and explore the existence of the anchoring effect in the course of immediate metacomprehension monitoring by controlling difficulty of the first article. The results are as follows:(1) There does exist the anchoring effect in the course of immediate metacomprehension monitoring; (2) The metacomprehension monitoring accuracy is low in high (low) anchor immediate group and there dose not exist the significant difference. In the second experiment 84 freshmen are chosen as subjects. We use E-prime to explore whether it can reduce the impact of anchoring effect on immediate metacomprehension monitoring by reducing the uncertainty of test scenario by controlling question (with questions and no questions) and difficulty of the first article. The results are as follows:(1) It can reduce the impact of anchoring effect on immediate metacomprehension monitoring so as to improve immediate metacomprehension monitoring accuracy by reducing the uncertainty of test scenario; (2) Anchoring effect is one of the reasons for low immediate metacomprehension monitoring accuracy. To sum up, anchoring effect affects immediate metacomprehension monitoring. It can reduce the impact of anchoring effect on immediate metacomprehension monitoring so as to improve immediate metacomprehension monitoring accuracy by reducing the uncertainty of test scenario. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | reading comprehension, metacomprehension monitoring, metacomprehension monitoring accuracy, anchoring effect, anchoring and adjustment heuristic | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
