Study Of Modern Chinese Quantifiers

Quantifier is very common but special in modern Chinese. Dividing and naming the parts of speech into arguments is relatively late in Chinese history. However, the emergence of them is earlier. The causes of the emergence are like the others. They based on the communication of people's daily life. When people carry out material exchanges in social activities. They need to be measured. When they exchange ideas, they also need to explain accurately. So the quantifier came into being. The development process of Chinese quantifiers also followed in the development process of Chinese grammar, and they develop their own constantly during the process.Quantifier is unique to Sino-Tibetan languages. Its particularities attract many scholars of Chinese grammar over the years. But comparing with other parts of speech, it seems infrequent. According to our researches, most of the works which are about Chinese quantifiers are history researches or are individually studied different dynasties' history , and they are just a small number. There are only sporadic publications scholarly papers. So there are not too many research results of Chinese quantifiers.Using the quantifiers is a feature of Chinese language. Chinese quantifiers are used frequently in our lives. Whether it is in social activity or daily life, we are inseparable from the quantifiers. Which guarantees that people can express things and ideas necessary to be rational, accuracy and figurative in the communication process. It also provides the driving force for social advance. The expressions become more accurate and methodic. It's good for people to do different kinds of things successfully and integrally. It promotes the development of the society. However, the developments of society have promoted the progress of Chinese grammar and vocabulary. It makes Chinese quantifiers be constantly changed with the continuous development of societyThis topic is based on the corpus of Chinese quantifiers in "Modern Chinese Dictionary" (fifth edition). It collects 462 modern Chinese quantifiers, and 499 semantic meanings. Firstly, we classify these quantifiers which be collected from the synchronic point of view. Secondly, then according to "Dictionary of Chinese Characters" and "Chinese Dictionary" these two tool books, I study the quantifiers from the historical sources'point. At last, it compares each quantifier from expression to get the state of development. And it explores the development of the quantifier. In order to provide reference data from different aspects of situation for the modern Chinese quantifiers, the quantifiers are described comprehensively and analyzed comparatively. And it seeks to identify new phenomena and rules.
