This thesis has done a thorough and deep study about the three status-descriptive adverbs:"qiaoqiao", "toutou", "anan",from the angles of semantics, syntax and pragmatics in order to reveal their similarities and differences. And it raises its own viewpoints from the following aspects:1.Proceeding with the basic forms "qiao","tou","an", and integrating with the analysis of the meanings of "qiaoqiao", "toutou", "anan", we get their distingui shing features of maning:"qiaoqiao"possesses the character[+sound/low]; "toutou" [+disobedience];and "anan"[+mental processing].2. Found that"qiaoqiao","toutou" with their distinguish meaning features were not so frequently used in modern Chinese. And revised predecessor's some viewpoints: e.g."toutou" is not mainly used to modify action of derogatory sense.3.Based on a distinction of description and mode among "qiaoqiao", "toutou", "anan" and theories of grammaticalization and cognition, we prove that all of them have the meaning of description and mode. Besides, we hold that in the process of grammaticalization, the loss of the distinguishing semantic features has caused the semantic confusion of qiaoqiao", "toutou", "anan".4.As to the syntactic feature, "qiaoqiao" is much more adopted than t other two in the nonconscious sentences in which the subject possess the characteristics of [-life], and generally, "totou" is excluded from such sentences in which the subject represents will have displacement. It is plain for these three words to be adverbs separately; moreover, the adverbs are also frequently combined with prepositional phrases that express locality and object. Plus, they are flexibly placed in the sentences with non-distinguishing features.5.As regards the pragmatic functions, "qiaoqiao", "toutou", "anan" can highlight the situation and make supplementary specifications for the way of action. In addition, their function of discourse connection is the main factor we consider when we apply them in the particular context, among which the most obvious one is the character of[+disobedience]that "toutou" possesses. Generally, the constraint factor it breaches can be judged from the context or common sense.
